Center Spotlight on CFAER Student: Congratulations to Benjamin Janos-Szabo Hunter!

Benjamin and Congressman Xavier Becerra

We’ve just received exciting news: Ben won 1st place in Congressman Xavier Becerra’s Congressional Student Art Competition this year! This includes a trip to Washington D.C. and a $2000 scholarship that will be applied to his tuition at California Institute for the Arts, where’s he’s been accepted to study Experimental and Character animation this Fall. He is currently attending RIBET Academy, and will graduate this Spring. This also isn’t his first time being recognized by the Congressional Student Art Competition for his artistic talents– just last year, he won third place!

Ben started attending classes at CFAER seven years ago when he was ten years old. He’s currently enrolled in our SPMAP (Sony Pictures Media Arts Program) animation class taught by instructors from California Institute for the Arts. Ben says, “The classes have shaped me as a person and artist and have led me to my current goals of becoming a professional animated filmmaker. These classes have been a sanctuary and a paradise for me, and are truly highlights of my week. Many of the teachers and students have become lifelong friends to me, friends that are priceless.”

Congratulations to Ben both for receiving such a significant award, and for being accepted into his first choice college! We wish you the best of luck graduating high school and moving forward, and look forward to seeing your animated films on the big screen!
