Our workshops provide unique educational opportunities in specific métiers, taught by local artists. Usually, workshops meet once a week during each ten week session, and most are free or low-cost. In our programs, we use new approaches with existing mediums to create original work.

Printmaking

Learn how to make all manner of prints using non- toxic and easy to use materials: Lino-Cuts, Wood-Cuts, Monotypes, Drypoint Etchings, Collographs. Class exhibition will take place in January.

Mixed Media Sculpture 
Ages 5-12

Tuesdays, February 12 – April 23, 2013

In this class we will develop our ideas through sketching and create 3D objects based on our drawings: animals, people, hanging mobile sculptures, models of houses, cars, and more. We will be working with sculpture wire and air-drying clay, as well as mixed media materials such as cardboard, wood, fabric and recycled plastics.

Plant It, Grow It, Pick It, Eat It
Ages 6-12

Wednesdays, February 13 – April 24, 2013

This class is a great way for children to explore the outdoors and the way plants work as well as how we grow food and cook nature’s bounty! In 8 sessions students will learn about the basics of soil, plant biology, nutrition, and cooking. Student will work in the Center’s veggie and succulent garden as well as the kitchen to explore how food nurtures our bodies, our communities, and our environment.

Graphic Design by Hand and Heart
Ages 13+
Tuition: FREE!
Thursdays, February 14 – April 25, 2013
4:00 – 6:00pm
Learn how to use graphic design to make your own flyers, postcards, posters, and other forms of visual communication using hand-made processes like lettering, collage, and print-making. We will learn about the fundamentals of design, composition, typography, illustration, and how to apply these tools to graphic design projects in your everyday life.

Clay Jammers

Fridays, February 15 – April 26, 2013

Musical instruments, plants, animals, strange buildings and strange lands will be created in clay! A balance of functional and sculptural objects sometimes combined with less traditional materials, makes this an exciting class that will keep the students wondering what else they can do with clay! A class for beginners as well as those with experience, this class will teach skills and techniques such as hand building and glazing while broadening the student’s understanding and application of ceramics. Space is limited, register today!
