Permissionary Work, an exhibition of new work from CamLab, that ranges from sculptural to social. The Los Angeles-based collaborative duo responds to the community-focused mission of the Center for the Arts Eagle Rock by asking themselves what kinds of invitations they want to extend to others publicly and privately. The resulting works depict various attempts at engagement and include examples that are insider, narcissistic, exclusive, inclusive, and imaginary. This new body of work furthers CamLab’s ongoing investigation into intimacy and how the political becomes personal by making its existing networks palpable and by giving its potential networks form. Manifestations are grounded in customized patterned fabric, neon, readymade patterned duct tape, and natural light. CamLab will conduct participatory public and private workshops in the gallery space during the course of the show.

Opening: Sunday, November 10, 6-9pm

Exhibition on view daily M-F, 11am-5pm until December 4, 2013.

As part of the exhibition, please join us for a public workshop with Camlab:

CamLab invites the Eagle Rock community to align its hands, hearts, eyes, and minds in a exploratory workshop held at the Center. Using the simple tools of a pair of scissors and duct tape, we will experiment with Brazilian artist Lygia Clark’s (1920-1988) “trailings”. You will learn to cut your own trailing individually, and as a group we will increase the scale of the exercise as well as use it to map our tangled relationships. Together our efforts will propose collective embodiment and tactile synchronicity. Ages 12 and up.

Public Workshop on November 21st, 7-9pm
