EMPLOYMENT DATES: June 2, 2014 – August 8, 2014

$10 hourly, 40 hours per week

POSITION DESCRIPTION 
The Education Intern will assist in the design and implementation of key art education programs for children through adults, including Afterschool Arts: Imagine Studio; Innovative Community Workshops; and Art Camps. She or he will have the opportunity to directly design and implement Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) standards-based activities, and will become knowledgeable on various aspects of community arts education program activities including marketing, outreach to community members and partner organizations, working in the classroom with children, and working with professional artists, as well as program evaluation, as part of a high performing team.

SKILLS REQUIRED 
Our Education department is a small and highly active area serving over 2,700 individuals per year, requiring highly motivated internship assistance that will be very hands on with programming. Applicants should have a strong interest in working with children and youth to deliver innovative community arts education programming, and have an excellent ability to communicate clearly with co-workers as well as with children, parents, and other community members. Other knowledge helpful includes a strong understanding of the city’s artistic culture, interest in contemporary arts including visual and performing arts; and an appreciation for multicultural and inclusive community programs that are designed to serve people from all walks of life. Excellent interpersonal, telephone, computer, and internet communication skills are vital to success in this position, and experience/skills in the arts are also very important.  Flexibility to handle asssisting with all programming at CFAER, including event support. Web page and blogging experience is a plus, as is basic computer program and document design experience. Familiarity with the Northeast Los Angeles arts communities is desired, and candidates should have a strong interest in working hard to meet the arts education needs of our diverse communities.

EAGLE ROCK MUSIC FESTIVAL INTERNSHIP

EMPLOYMENT DATES: June 9, 2014 – August 15, 2014

$10 hourly, 40 hours per week

POSITION DESCRIPTION 
The ERMF Intern will play a key role in organizing a prominent community music festival by reviewing artist submissions; helping select finalists; communicating with over 50 bands, prospective event sponsors, and the media by phone, email, mail, and online. The Intern will research and assist in developing marketing materials; and will send developed materials to potential artist and business participants; as well as festival volunteers, and media. This position will also give the Intern the opportunity to see the daily running of a non-profit arts center, and will help with affiliated concerts and summer events.

SKILLS REQUIRED 
Special requirements include great enthusiasm to listen closely to, as well as support and promote local LA musicians and artists, and a desire to work closely as a member of a small, yet high performing, staff to complete the organization of the 16th ERMF. Other knowledge helpful includes a strong understanding of the city’s artistic culture, interest in contemporary music including rock and pop and extending into experimental sound and world music; and an appreciation for multicultural and inclusive community events that are designed to serve people from all walks of life. Other qualities we are looking for include the ability to tackle work with gusto; excellent organizational skills; flexibility to handle assisting with all programming at CFAER, including arts education and event support; top-notch communication skills with other staff and the public; fluency in computer and Internet use; and personal interest in creative work. Knowledge of northeast LA’s diverse geography and culture is a plus!
