Edo oo Bes (No One but Edo)

Center for the Arts Eagle Rock is proud to present…

Edo oo Bes (No One but Edo)

curated by Gilda Davidian

and featuring the work of Gilda Davidian & Edward Tatoulian

Gilda Davidian became captivated by the life and work of octagenarian portrait photographer Edward Tatoulian and the stories behind his pictures. In this exhibition, Davidian creates new work inspired by their shared Armenian heritage and inspired by Tatoulian’s extensive archives from the past 40 years. She presents Tatoulian’s historical work alongside her own photographic responses, developing a new dialogue. The title of the exhibition, “Edo oo Bes” (No one but Edo), refers to a statement that customers were known to say at the height of Tatoulian’s career in regards to the quality of his portraits and highly demanded retouching skills.

Edo oo Bes goes beyond documentary and history. It uses cross-generational relationships to point at the ways we use photography to engage with each other, which creates a guide for understanding the world around us.
