My approach has been to be as open as possible, to try to relax, and let go of expectations. Making faces has meant looking in a new way at line, shape, light, shadow, and color. Jolene and Diego provided great images to show how unique and varied faces can be. And, how they can be interpreted.
The class has taught me that I enjoy working quickly with gesture and contour drawings. I like trying to capture the essence of something without needing to get every detail. This is really freeing. I've enjoyed trying new media like charcoal, oil pastels, and clay. I feel I've gained new skills and hope to continue to grow with more classes like this.
