Center for the Arts Eagle Rock is seeking staff for our upcoming Summer Arts Camp 2025! Camp is running from July 7th through August 8th this year. Teaching staff is on site from 8am-3:30pm Monday through Friday. This is a temporary, seasonal position.
Position Title: PERFORMING ARTS TEACHER
Description: The Performing Arts Teacher will lead inventive performance based classes for our Summer Arts Camp that allow the campers to develop their own stories they will present to friends and family at the end of each week.
Status: Seasonal Full-time; Monday through Friday for 5 weeks; on site at facility
Start Date: July 7, 2025
End Date: August 8, 2025
Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:30AM – 3:30PM
Pay rate: $1,250 per week
Requirements:
At least three years experience teaching performance to youths, preferably elementary school age
Proficiency in set and prop design
Experience working in a summer camp environment
Strong communication skills and the ability to work with a variety of ages, personalities and skill levels
Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, self-control
Demonstrated ability to generate innovative creative projects that engage individual campers and work well in a group setting
Confidence and experience managing a group of up to 15 students at a time
Live Scan certification and TB clearance
Familiarity with VAPA standards a plus
Proven ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment and proven ability to work under only general supervision
Reliable transportation: automobile, current drivers license, automobile insurance
Responsibilities Prior to Camp:
Work collaboratively with the Director of Education to develop age appropriate projects for Summer Arts Camp
Attend pre-camp virtual training sessions and in-person training and supply assembly
Prepare weekly advance lists of all materials necessary for creative projects
Responsibilities During Camp:
Plan, organize and execute performing arts program for Summer Arts Camp
Expose campers to performing techniques, methods, and using performance as a form of self-expression and storytelling
Provide leadership, encouragement and artistic inspiration to campers
Inventory supplies at the end of the week in order to determine what will be required for the next session
Prepare, present and clean up daily camp projects
Maintain a professional, neat and clean appearance at all times
Have crafts, supplies, equipment, etc. all set up and ready to go, 10 minutes before the scheduled start of project
Monitor the inventory of arts and crafts supplies to assure proper allocation of supplies to all campers throughout the summer
Ensure that all art material is properly used and cared for by all campers and report any damages or loss of equipment
Proposed Curriculum should include:
Elements of the following, in a curriculum that supports students as they write, direct, and act in their own performances they will then present to friends and family at the end of each week of camp.
Theatre
Develop theatre performances in which campers can apply skills in acting, directing, designing, and scriptwriting to create theatre productions
Story development, set design, prop making, rehearsals, blocking, directing, puppetry, poetry, musicals, dance, choreography, improvisation, etc.
